Are you worried?
The Holy Spirit may be convicting you and may be trying to help you understand that you need God's forgiveness for your sins. Are you worried because of sin in your life? Some people doubt they are Christians because of some sin or sinful habit. They fear punishment from God. They cannot imagine they are really a Christian. We would be glad to help. Are you just having intellectual doubts? Maybe you believe in Jesus but you are just having doubts. If you do, then read the following passages. They will reveal the marks of a true Christian. The Bible says that after a person becomes a Christian he will have new attitudes, desires and actions. So the more of these passages that are true about you, the greater can be your confidence that you are a Christian.
Know more and more about God
"I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning." 1 John 2:13
Desire to study the Bible
"like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, so that by it you may grow". 1 Pet. 2:2
Desire to obey God
" . . . we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, 'I . . . know Him,' and does not keep His commandments, is a liar. 1 John 2:3-4
Admit they sin
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
Sin less and less
" . . . I am writing these things to you, so that you may not sin." 1 John 2:1
Love others
"The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love." 1 John 4:8
Not love the world
"If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in Him." 1 John 2:15
Grow spiritually "I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who was from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 1 John 2:13-14 Display the fruits of the Spirit
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Gal. 5:22
Understand spiritual things
"But the natural man [non-Christian] does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them. 1 Corinthians 2:14
Remain always as Christians
"They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, in order that it might be shown that they all are not of us. 1 John 2:19
