Spiritual Fire!

This past week as I was traveling the quiet roads of the Northwest I had a lot of time to reflect on my spiritual life. The Lord asked me, “My son are you on fire for Me?” My first response was to say yes Lord I am on fire for you, but then I took some time to meditate and reflect on my spiritual life.

I thought, yes Lord I love you with all my heart, I go to Sunday school and church services, I go crusading, I serve communion, and take offering, I help teach in church classes and I try to be available when needed.

However, is that really the question Jesus was asking? The more I contemplated on this the more I questioned my inner feelings. Sure I go through all the motions and do most all the right things, but am I really on fire with joy? Does it show to everyone around me? Am I eager to go of my way for my brother or sister? Do I offer words of encouragement regularly? Or do I just go through the motions of complacency?

We can be a mature Christian and attend church regularly and be caught up in just being there. How does guests see us? Do we get excited to sing praises to our Lord? Are we attentive to our pastor's message or are we thinking about what is for lunch or the game on TV this afternoon?

One small question the Lord asked me, “Are you on fire for me?” and it generated a whole host of other questions. What an awesome God we serve, He loves us unconditionally. From all these questions, I prayed this prayer:

Heavenly Father set me on fire for you, make me more like Jesus, I make myself available to you, to use me and mold me. Father let the joy that is in my heart shine out through my smile and actions, Father let me put myself second to all those I encounter, let me be that light set upon the hill, let me be more encouraging with my actions and words to others. Father put that bounce back in my spiritual step, let my eyes glitter and shine with your love.

Heavenly Father I will shine for you, I will be the encourager to others, I will be attentive to your will and commands as they are written in scriptures. Father I will be your ambassador to the world around me wherever I may be.

Thank you Heavenly Father for your many blessings and abundant grace, thank you for your love and thank you for writing my name in Your book of life, thank you Father for Jesus Christ our eternal savior.

I bring all honor and glory to you my Heavenly Father, it is in Jesus Christ name I pray, amen.

Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God. Romans 15:17
