Obey the Lord!
If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God: Deuteronomy 28:1-2
Reading, memorizing, and meditation upon the Word of God are of no value without obedience to the Word of God. To obey the Word of God, you do what the Word of God indicates should be done in any situation. Obedience to the Word of God is the only way that the child of God can be pleasing to God in the new life. Obedience to God's Word results in: being treasured by God (Exodus 19:5), happiness in life (Psalm 119:2), not being ashamed (Psalm 119:4-6), understanding and wisdom (Psalm 119:100), avoidance of evil (Psalms 119:101), guidance for life (Psalms 119:105), safety and freedom from anxiety (Proverbs 1:33), life (Proverbs 19:16, John 8:51), God's blessing (Isaiah 1:19), greatness in the Kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:19), bearing fruit for God (Matthew 13:23), manifesting love for God (John 14:23, 2 John 2:5), promise of God's presence (John 14:23, 2 John 9), assurance of salvation (I John 2:3), eternal life (I John 2:17), and entrance into heaven (Revelation 22:7).
As we have leaned from the above study it is better to obey than to sacrifice. We are right in the middle of God's will when we are obeying Him in all that we do. A part of obeying God is praising Him to acknowledge the glories of His excellent person. God alone is worthy of our praise, all of our praises be to Him. For He has formed us and He has saved us. He is our glory, the light of our life, our eternal salvation, our Heavenly Father.
As we enter into another new year, make it a priority to spend more time in the word to learn more about God and His attributes and to commit to obedience to His calling. If we really love God then we will want to obey Him, think about it, what has God done for us? Besides providing everything that we have, speaking into existence everything that there is, He sacrificed His son on the cross to provide a way for us to enter into His eternal Kingdom called Heaven. This is how much He loves us, how can we love Him any less. There isn't anything we can do to repay God for what He has done for us except to be an obedient servant.
Heavenly Father, we commit to you today to be obedient to your calling, to spend time daily in your word and to spend time daily communicating with you in prayer. We seek your understanding of the words we read so that we may put them into our daily lives to be a faithful servant. We honor and praise you for your many blessings you have showed us in our life. We thank you for your Son, our Savior and our Lord, that you have provided a way for us to be a part of your eternal Kingdom. In Jesus name we pray....amen
