Pleasing God!

......"Stop oppressing the helpless and stop making false accusations and spreading vicious rumors! 10 Feed the hungry and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as day. 11 The LORD will guide you continually, watering your life when you are dry and keeping you healthy, too. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. 12 Your children will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as the people who rebuild their walls and cities. 13 "Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don't pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the LORD's holy day. Honor the LORD in everything you do, and don't follow your own desires or talk idly. If you do this, 14 the LORD will be your delight. I will give you great honor and give you your full share of the inheritance I promised to Jacob, your ancestor. I, the LORD, have spoken!" Isaiah 58:9b-14

Pleasing God does not really seem to be that hard of an item to do for us until we sit back and think of the past week and reflect on our actions, our words and our deeds. Did we please God by how we acted towards one another? Did we use words to lift up and edify God? Did we feed the hungry and cloth the poor? Good intentions are dust in the wind without actions. We need to be ever aware of all that God calls us to be and to do.

This past week a friend called me to tell me that I was the subject of a rumor. I was hurt that this friend would talk about me without coming to me first. When I went to their house to ask them about this rumor I found out more than I had expected. First off the person that was called that spread the rumor was doing so in a gossiping manner. The friends who called were asking for prayer to help them resolve the matter of how to approach me with the issue.

What man means for evil God can use for good, for His glory and for our growth. As it all turned out the person who gossiped, repented and asked for forgiveness. Was this meant just for the person who started the gossip? No! it was a lesson for all of us involved. I was saying things that caused my sister to have grief, which was the reason she went to another friend for prayer. I asked for her forgiveness and vowed not to go there again.

We can all be guilty of gossiping from time to time. It does nothing but tear down. I asked my friends to hold me accountable for my words and actions, if they hear me talk negatively or to act in an inappropriate manner to call me on it and I would do the same for them. We must stop this now, it causes division, hurt, shame and most of all it does not please God.

If we want God to bless us and our family we are to obey His instructions. We can do it today. Start with asking God to help you build up and glorify Him in all that you do and say. Let the light shine, let the water flow and honor God in all that you do.

Gracious Father, we humbly ask for your forgiveness for not being the person you desire. Help us today to be ever mindful of your instructions and to come to you in all that we do and all that we say so that we may glorify and honor you. You are the giver of life, you have redeemed our soul unto you through the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ. May we act in a way that is worthy of this eternal gift from You. We praise and honor you with all of our being this day Lord. It is in Jesus Christ name we pray......amen.
